Boise City Elections look a little different this year.

I’ve got all the information you need to make sure your vote counts!

In 2023, all of Boise votes by geographic council district.

Maps are new this year - use the map below to find your district. I’m running in District 6 (the PURPLE district on the map).

“Will you be on the ballot this year?”

In 2020, the Idaho Legislature passed a bill that changed our municipal elections. The two most significant changes are:

  • Cities with over 100,000 residents are required to move to a geographic district system (instead of an at-large system)

  • Unopposed candidates are automatically declared the winner and will not appear on the ballot

This means that instead of every voter in the city getting to vote on all six council members, voters now will get to vote in one council race every four years. In 2023 districts 1, 3, and 5 will be elected to a 4-year term, while districts 2, 4, and 6 (my district!) will be 2-year terms. Moving forward, all districts will be on 4-year terms, with half the council elected every two years.

It also means that since I didn't draw a challenger, I'm NOT going to appear on the ballot and have officially been declared Boise City Councilmember for District 6. I'm disappointed voters in District 6 won't get to have a council candidate on the ballot and believe canceling elections is a dangerous precedent, even if no one filed to run against me.

It's still critical that you get out and vote. I'm supporting Mayor McLean and encourage you to support her as well, so we can continue the great work we’ve started on affordability, public safety, and protecting our natural resources and quality of life.

Early Voting:

You can vote early in-person at Boise City Hall (150 N Capitol Blvd) or Ada County Elections by the Driver’s License office (400 N Benjamin Ln) October 23rd - November 3rd, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.

Mobile Voting Unit:

Ada County’s Mobile Vote Truck (aka food truck voting!) will be at various locations across Ada County from 10am - 5pm. See the locations here:

ALL ADA COUNTY VOTERS CAN VOTE AT ANY EARLY OR MOBILE VOTING UNIT LOCATION, REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU LIVE IN ADA COUNTY!

If I request an absentee ballot, can I still vote in person?

  • Yes! If you request an absentee ballot and decide you’d like to vote in person, you can take your ballot into your polling place and they will give you a new ballot to vote there.

How do I return my absentee ballot?

  • You need to sign on the signature line of your absentee ballot’s outer envelope. Unsigned ballots will not be counted!

  • Once you sign, you can put it in the mail (and get it in as soon as possible - ballots have to be in hand at Ada County Elections by the time the polls close. Ballots postmarked by November 7 will not count if the Elections office doesn’t have them.)

  • If you want to hand-deliver it (or if you run out of time), you can turn it into one of the secure 24/7 election drop boxes at Ada County Elections on Benjamin, or at the drop boxes outside the City Halls in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Kuna, or Star. Any Ada County voter can turn their ballot in at any of these locations.

Where do I vote on Election Day?

  • You can check your polling place and your registration status here.

Can I register to vote at the polls?

  • Yes! Pre-registration is now closed but you can register to vote during in-person Early Voting or at the polling place for your current address on Election Day. You will need to bring a valid photo ID and a proof of residency (like a utility bill, lease, or bank statement with your address).

What do I need to bring to the polls?

  • If you are already registered to vote, you do not need to bring an ID. You can sign an affidavit instead of providing an ID.

  • If you’re not already registered and will be registering at the polls, bring a valid photo ID and proof of residency

Has the county received my absentee ballot?

  • You can check the status of your absentee ballot here.

When should I expect my ballot?

  • Ballots will be sent out on a rolling basis as voters request them. Expect to receive your ballot in 7-10 days after requesting it. You can check the status of your ballot here
